Translation and Use of Terminologies

As an academic showcase and blog, there will be some technical terminologies being used constantly, and even was casually mentioned somewhere. However, there might be more than one way to describe a particular item, thing, knowledge, technique, or others, and although the greatest efforts have been made to ensure there will be minimal confusion when using them, there might be some cases where a terminology may differ from what you have learned or previously heard. I such cases, please kindly leave a comment and I’ll do my best to make corrections.

Due to the nature of some words, especially those made up for specific uses, translation them from English to Chinese (or the other way around) may have several versions. This sheet describes the translation used on this site for some of the most common specialised words or terms, and provide a short description of their differences if there are some looks quite alike.

DLW, GCG and GCGOG

This is probably the most confusing word use, as the first two term are almost the same thing, while the third is the prequel of the first two. For the greatest clarity, I explain what these are one by one.

  • Double Life World is a game developed by Seasun Games and published by Bilibili Games in China using Simplified Chinese in November 2019. It is the sequel of the Girl Cafe Gun OG that was published a few years before. It retained the name of its prequel in the tag line, which states ‘Girl Cafe Gun II’. Many of the characters are retained, with some exceptions.
  • Girl Cafe Gun may refer to several variants of Double Life World published by Bilibili HK Limited (English and Korean), Komoe Games (Traditional Chinese) and Marvellous(Japanese, later transferred to Seasun Games JP) around the world. They were published under the name of ‘Girl Cafe Gun’, as GCGOG was not released in these areas or in those Languages.
  • Girl Cafe Gun OG is the prequel of both DLW and GCG, published in Simplified Chinese only by Season Games, the developer. Published in 2016 and ceased its service in early 2020 after the release of its sequel. It was also the first anime style game the Kingsoft subsidiary has ever produced since its establishment in the late 20th century.
  • Not knowing what happened in GCGOG does not affect players’ ability to understand either variant of the sequels. However, the settings of the GCGOG were not all fully inherited by its sequel, which removed some troublesome settings to make it easier for new players to understand.

Higan: Eruthyll, Eruthyll, and Planet Eruthyll

Higan: Eruthyll is a game developed and published by Bilibili. At many times, it is simply referred as Eruthyll for convenience, partly because before this name was finalised, it was called Project: Eruthyll.

Planet Eruthyll is where the story of Higan: Eruthyll takes place. It is a place that is not Earth.
